The following is an interview with the leader of our trip to The Bahamas through Volunteer Emory.
Why did you want to lead a trip to the Bahamas?
"I chose to leave the trip to the Bahamas because I knew there was so much property there. There are a lot of people poor people and I knew we can make a big impact. I really like partnering with Bahamas Methodist Habitat they were really helpful and a great organization."
How much work went into putting the trip together?
"We spent a lot of time planning the trip over many months. We had to attend a lot of meetings and speak to a lot of people before we could confirm anything. Went through a long process of interviewing everybody to get a place on the trip, a lot of people ended up wanting to go."
What was important about volunteering on the trip?
"The most important part of this trip was that we helped so many people in the little time that we were there. We Britain so many peoples days and had a lot of fun with the children who lived in the area we were painting. We got a lot done at the Red Cross as well it was very fun."
What was your favorite place to volunteer in The Bahamas?
"My favorite place to volunteer in the Bahamas was Pitt Road. The children there were really amazing and we learned a lot about the culture. I really enjoyed the work we did even though it was in the hot sun."
If you could change one thing about the trip what would you?
"I would not change anything about the volunteering aspect of the trip, I would change something about the things we did in our free time. We didn't get to do as much as we wanted in the time that we were there having to pertain with the touristy stuff. But then again we were there to volunteer and not to be tourists on vacation."
Any additional comments?
"I really had a great time with all of the people who decided to come on the trip. We picked a really great group of people and we really did an amazing job helping out the community."
